Title:

Royal Fisk correspondence: San Francisco, Calif., 1864-1866

Creator/Contributor:

Fisk, Royal, creator, correspondent.

Abstract:

Five handwritten letters (11 p.) to the founder and owner of the Fisk Hotel discussing business matters affecting the hotel, gold mining, and shipping cost reductions. Three of the letters are from family members in Silver Mountain, California, including two nieces who work at the hotel, one as a cook, and Charles Fisk who writes of his efforts at goldmining. One letter is from a business partner, F.C. Smith, discussing details for payment of an overdue note, the closing of the store, and how local election results will be unfavorably affected by workers on the Sonora and Aurora Roads, " ... they will go against the Union ..." The fifth letter, from George S. [Laddetts?] in Stockton, California, contains a reply to a query by Fisk with details of a new road via Big Trees [Calaveras County] and lower shipping costs, " ... also we can forward goods via the Amador [County] Grade as cheap as can be shipped from Sacramento. Teams are leaving almost daily via Big Trees for Silver Mountain."
